Built around Sargent's proven 8800 Series platform, this device features electric latch retraction (ELR) that allows the latch to be retracted remotely, supporting momentary or sustained free access when paired with an access control system. The fail-safe design unlocks the ETJ lever trim when power is removed, making it ideal for secured egress applications. Designed for doors ranging from 43 to 48 inches in width and supplied less cylinder and less dogging, it delivers dependable Grade 1 performance for high-traffic commercial and institutional environments.

Features

Electric latch retraction (ELR) enables remote retraction of the latch for controlled access.

Fail-safe operation unlocks the ETJ lever trim when power is removed from the device.

UL listed for fire-rated door openings, providing no mechanical dogging.

Sized for wide doors measuring 43 to 48 inches in width.

Supplied without a cylinder, allowing use with your preferred keying system.

ETJ (J escutcheon) lever trim offers a durable, ADA-compliant operation.

Grade 1 rated construction built for heavy commercial and institutional use.

Operates on 24V power for compatibility with standard access control systems.

Functional Details

The 56 electric latch retraction function uses a motorized mechanism to retract the latch bolt electrically, allowing the door to be pushed or pulled freely without actuating the pushpad. When power is applied, the latch is held retracted for passage; when power is removed on this fail-safe configuration, the outside lever trim is unlocked, permitting entry while free egress is always maintained from the inside.

Arm Type Details

This device uses ETJ lever trim, a key-in-lever style escutcheon trim with the J lever design.
