Sargent 56-8874-F-ETJ-12V Electrified Rim Exit Device, Electric Latch Retraction, Fail Secure Power Off Locks Lever, No Cylinder, For 33-36 Inch Width Door, Hex Key Dogging
The Sargent 56-8874-F-ETJ-12V is a heavy-duty electrified rim exit device built for high-traffic commercial openings that demand reliable access control. Featuring 12-volt electric latch retraction (ELR), it allows the latch to be retracted remotely for remote unlocking, momentary access, or integration with automatic operators and card readers. Configured in a fail secure arrangement, the outside ETJ lever locks when power is removed, maintaining security during power loss while always permitting free egress from the inside. Designed for doors 33 to 36 inches wide and equipped with hex key dogging, this Grade 1 device delivers durable, code-compliant performance for institutional, educational, and commercial facilities.
Features
- Electric latch retraction (ELR) powered at 12 volts for remote latch control and access integration.
- Fail secure operation keeps the outside lever locked when power is removed.
- ETJ lever trim provides durable keyed exterior access control (no cylinder supplied).
- Hex key dogging holds the pushbar retracted for push/pull operation during peak traffic.
- Sized for doors 33 to 36 inches in width.
- Grade 1 rim-mounted construction for high-cycle commercial durability.
- Free egress is always available from the interior regardless of power status.
Functional Details
The 8874 ELR function uses an electric motor to retract the latch bolt on command, allowing the door to be unlocked remotely or on a timed schedule. When paired with access control systems, the latch can be held retracted or momentarily released without manual operation of the pushbar. As a fail secure device, removing power secures the outside lever while egress remains unrestricted.
- Electric latch retraction allows remote operation of the exit device.
- Fail secure: power off locks outside trim; egress always available.
- Compatible with automatic operators and access control systems.
Arm Type Details
The ETJ trim is a keyed lever design that controls exterior access to the opening. When the device is locked, the lever is rigid and will not retract the latch; when unlocked or energized, the lever operates the latch to allow entry. This unit ships without a cylinder, permitting field selection of the keying system.
Included Components
Rim exit device chassis with 12V electric latch retraction, ETJ keyed lever trim, and hex key dogging hardware. A mortise cylinder is not included and must be ordered separately.
