Sargent 56-8874-J-ETP-24V Electrified Rim Exit Device, Electric Latch Retraction, Fail Secure Power Off Locks Lever, No Cylinder, For 37-42 Inch Width Door, Hex Key Dogging
The Sargent 56-8874-J-ETP-24V is a heavy-duty electrified rim exit device engineered for high-traffic commercial openings that demand reliable access control. Featuring Electric Latch Retraction (ELR), it allows remote unlocking and momentary or sustained latch retraction for hands-free entry and integration with card readers, keypads, or building automation systems. The fail secure configuration keeps the J-style ETP lever trim locked when power is lost, maintaining security during outages. Designed for doors 37 to 42 inches wide, it includes hex key dogging for mechanical hold-open and operates on 24V. Built to Grade 1 standards, this device delivers dependable performance for institutional, educational, and commercial applications.
Features
- Electric Latch Retraction (ELR) enables remote latch control and hands-free operation when paired with access control systems.
- Fail secure design locks the lever trim automatically when power is removed, preserving door security.
- ETP escutcheon lever trim with J (Ligature-resistant) lever design for durable grip-and-pull operation.
- Sized for 37 to 42 inch wide doors to fit wider commercial openings.
- Hex key dogging allows the device to be mechanically held in the retracted position for free passage.
- Operates on 24V DC for compatibility with low-voltage power supplies.
- Grade 1 rated construction for high-cycle, high-abuse environments.
- Supplied without cylinder, allowing you to specify your preferred keying.
Functional Details
The 8874 ELR function uses an internal motor to retract the exit device latch electrically, permitting remote release and controlled entry. In fail secure mode, removing power causes the outside lever to remain locked, requiring valid credentials or a key for entry while free egress is always maintained from the inside.
- Electric latch retraction retracts the latchbolt electrically for remote operation and automatic operator integration.
- Fail secure: power off locks the outside lever trim.
- Free egress is always available from the push-bar side.
Arm Type Details
This device uses the ETP escutcheon trim with the P lever, a ligature-resistant lever profile designed to reduce ligature points while providing secure, reliable operation on the pull side of the door.
