The Sargent 55-8813-J-ETP is a Grade 1 rim exit device engineered for high-traffic openings that require secure, reliable egress and classroom-style access control. Configured for doors 37" to 42" wide, it pairs ET trim with the P lever design and includes a built-in Request to Exit (RX) switch for monitoring door status and integrating with access control systems. The classroom function lets the outside lever be locked or unlocked by key, while free egress is always available from the inside. Hex key dogging holds the pushbar retracted for push/pull operation during busy periods. Shipped less cylinder, this device accepts a standard mortise cylinder for flexible keying.

Functional Details

The classroom (J) function keeps egress available from the inside at all times while the outside lever is locked or unlocked by key. The RX feature uses an internal switch tied to the pushbar to report when the device is operated for exit.

  • Classroom function: outside lever locked or unlocked by key; latchbolt retracted by lever when unlocked or by inside pushpad.
  • Request to Exit switch monitors pushpad activity for access control integration.

Arm Type Details

This is a rim-mounted surface exit device. The pushpad actuates a rim latch that engages a surface-mounted strike on the frame, making it ideal for single doors or the active leaf of a pair.

Included Components

Ships with the 8800 series rim exit device chassis, ET escutcheon trim with P lever, Request to Exit switch, and hex key dogging. Mortise cylinder is not included and must be ordered separately.
